From March 22 to 26, 2025, the Water Pollution Control Equipment Professional Committee of China Environmental Protection Machinery Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") organized an expert team to conduct a five-day thematic research activity on municipal sludge scraper conveyors in Yidu City, Hubei Province. The purpose of this research was to collect first-hand data for the formulation of the industry standard Municipal Sludge Scraper Conveyors, promoting technical standardization and high-quality development in the industry. As a key domestic hub for environmental protection equipment manufacturing, Yidu City is home to several representative local manufacturers specializing in sludge treatment equipment, making it the preferred location for this research.

Background and Objectives of the Research
With the acceleration of China’s urbanization process and the increasingly stringent environmental protection policies, the treatment and disposal of municipal sludge have become a key issue in the field of water pollution control. As a critical piece of equipment in sludge treatment systems, municipal sludge scraper conveyors directly affect the efficiency, energy consumption, and environmental protection performance of sludge treatment. However, the technical levels of scraper conveyors currently available on the market vary significantly, and there is a lack of unified standards and specifications. This leads to large disparities in equipment quality, operational stability, and environmental performance. Therefore, the Committee decided to conduct this research to gain an in-depth understanding of the current state of the industry and provide a scientific basis for formulating the standard Municipal Sludge Scraper Conveyors.
Research Content and Process
This research was led by Li Qiang, Director of the Committee, and the team members included industry experts, members of the standard formulation group, and technical backbones. The research team visited four local manufacturing enterprises in Yidu City successively, namely Yidu Environmental Protection Equipment Co., Ltd., Yangtze River Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., Chutian Machinery Manufacturing Plant, and Lvshui Qingshan Environmental Protection Equipment Plant. The research content covered the following aspects:

1. Current Status of Equipment Production and Technology
The research team conducted on-site inspections of the production lines of various enterprises, focusing on understanding the design, manufacturing processes, material selection, and core technologies of scraper conveyors. Through in-depth exchanges with enterprise technicians, the team gained insights into the current technical characteristics of scraper conveyors in terms of structural design, wear resistance, sealing performance, and operational efficiency.
2. Equipment Operation and Maintenance Status
The research team also visited municipal sewage treatment plants that use scraper conveyors to understand the equipment’s performance in actual operation. Through on-site observations and data analysis, the team evaluated the equipment’s operational stability, energy consumption levels, and failure rates, and discussed equipment maintenance and optimization solutions with enterprise technicians.
3. Market Demand and User Feedback
The research team held discussions with managers and operators of municipal sewage treatment plants, and listened to their user experience and improvement suggestions regarding scraper conveyors. Users generally reported that they hope the equipment’s wear resistance, sealing performance, and intelligence will be further improved to reduce operating costs and maintenance difficulties.
4. Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Performance
During the research, the team focused on the environmental protection performance and energy efficiency of scraper conveyors. By comparing equipment data from different enterprises, the team found that some enterprises have made significant progress in material selection and process optimization, which can effectively reduce energy consumption and pollutant emissions during equipment operation.

Through this research, the Committee collected a large amount of technical data and market information on municipal sludge scraper conveyors, laying a solid foundation for the formulation of the Municipal Sludge Scraper Conveyors standard. Combining the current industry status and technological development trends, the research team initially formulated a technical framework for the standard, including the equipment’s basic parameters, performance requirements, environmental protection indicators, and testing methods.
